Grandmaster Al Smith: Empowering Youth and Families Through Taekwondo

With over four decades of dedicated experience in Taekwondo, spanning from his military service in Korea to achieving the esteemed 9th Degree Black Belt, Grandmaster Al Smith embodies excellence in martial arts. Recognized as Grandmaster of the Year by the U.S. Martial Arts Hall of Fame in 2007, he has passionately developed fitness, recreation, and discipline programs, utilizing Taekwondo as a catalyst for positive change.

Grandmaster Smith's commitment to empowering youth led him to establish the Masters Taekwondo Academy in Huntsville, Alabama, which thrived for over 23 years. However, it was his return to his native Michigan in 1997, at the request of former Mayor Charles Yarborough, that marked the beginning of his local operation in Benton Harbor. Armed with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business Administration and a Masters Degree in Theology, Grandmaster Smith's overarching goal remains consistent: to equip young individuals with the confidence and resources needed to succeed in their families, schools, and communities.

Join us in supporting Grandmaster Smith's mission to transform lives through Taekwondo, providing a path to empowerment and success for youth in Southwest Michigan and beyond.
